JUNIOR SPECIALIST NON-EXEMPT (JPF01340)


The Department of Neurobiology, Physiology and Behavior at the University of California, Davis invites applications for a qualified Junior Specialist Non-Exempt (JPF01340) in general support of molecular and cell biology projects related to study of function of brain neurons.


POSITION DESCRIPTION:

1-2 positions that will be involved in interdisciplinary studies focusing on questions in neurobiology and physiology and the function of brain neurons. Successful candidates will participate in laboratory research.


General responsibilities include: generation and characterization of ScFvs and nanobodies. The ideal candidate will have strong interpersonal, communication, and decision-making skills; as well as the ability to work well independently and as part of a team.


Experimental responsibilities include RNA extraction, library generation, phage display selection, antibody characterization, PCR, Gibson assembly, ligations, transformations, minipreps, maxipreps, agarose gel electrophoresis, and sequence analysis as related to generation and characterization of recombinant ScFvs and nanobodies. Additional responsibilities include characterization of recombinant ScFvs and nanobodies expressed in mammalian cells. Additional duties include basic lab management and maintenance, including maintaining inventory of laboratory supplies and reagents, laboratory safety, and general duties as assigned by PI. Responsibilities may include additional duties as assigned by the PI, as warranted by project needs.


BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor degree in Biology, Biochemistry, Cell Biology, Molecular Biology, Neurobiology, Physiology or a related field with a minimum of one year experience in undergraduate laboratory research.

  • Requires demonstrated experience and expertise in RNA extraction, library generation, phage display selection, antibody characterization, PCR, Gibson assembly, ligations, transformations, minipreps, maxipreps, agarose gel electrophoresis, and sequence analysis as related to generation and characterization of recombinant ScFvs and nanobodies.


PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Preference given to applicants with additional demonstrated experience and expertise in mammalian cell culture, transfections, immunocytochemistry and SDS gels/immunoblotting.


SALARY RANGE: Step I - $17.99 (hourly) or Step II - $19.18 (hourly), commensurate with qualifications and experience.
